BSc (Hons), MSc, H.Dip, MA, M.Ps.S.I, MIAHIP
Welcome, I’m Ruth, a psychotherapist based in Mullingar, offering counselling and psychotherapy to adults seeking support with a range of emotional, relational, and mental health concerns. I provide both in-person therapy and online sessions, depending on what works best for you.
I’m fully accredited with the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP), with a background that includes a BSc in Psychology, an MSc in Health Psychology, a Higher Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and a Master’s in Psychotherapy.
In our sessions, my aim is to create a space where you feel safe, heard, and respected. I value working collaboratively, recognising that you are the expert on your own life. My role is to help facilitate and empower you to explore your experiences, offering reflections, areas for further exploration, and interpretations to support deeper understanding. While I may guide some reflections on the past and suggest areas for exploration, you remain in control of the pace and depth of the process.
I am an integrative psychotherapist, drawing on humanistic and psychodynamic approaches to support our work together. From a humanistic perspective, I prioritise authenticity and self-discovery, creating a non-judgemental space where you can explore your values, aspirations, and present experiences.
Drawing from psychodynamic theory, I place emphasis on the influence of early life experiences, which often leave lasting imprints, shaping beliefs, behaviours, and relationships. By examining these patterns, we gain valuable insights into how past experiences continue to affect your thoughts and behaviours in the present.
This integrative approach allows me to work effectively with a range of concerns such as, childhood trauma, relationship dynamics, men’s mental health, chronic health conditions, and exploring sense of self. If you’re considering therapy, I aim to provide a supportive and compassionate environment where you can process your experiences and take steps toward meaningful change.
“We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know.”
